All Creatures Great and Small (TV)
Roddy

All Creatures Great and Small is a BBC drama series, based on the books of the British veterinary surgeon Alf Wight, who wrote under the pseudonym James Herriot. It follows the trials and misadventures of the staff of a country veterinary office in 1940’s Yorkshire. It starred Christopher Timothy (Herriot), Robert Hardy(Farnon) and Peter Davison(Tristan). Simon Ward, John Alderton and Richard Beckinsale all turned it down the lead role of Herriot. Patrick took on the role of a very hairy tramp called Roddy who seeks help when his dog get sick, in an episode entitled Hair of the Dog.1980 semms to have been ‘the year of his hairy tramps!’

Only When I Laugh (TV Series)
Perkins

Only When I Laugh is a Yorkshire Television TV sitcom made for ITV and written by Eric Chappel. The title was in answer to the question, “Does it hurt?” It was set in an NHS hospital ward and starred James Bolamas (Roy Figgis) Peter Bowles (Archie Glover), Christopher Strauli (Norman Binns) and Richard Wilson (Gordon Thorpe). Patrick appeared in an episode called 'Where there’s a Will' as the eccentric unhygienic patient Joe Perkins with his invisible dog. Despite his appearance the tramp is very rich and consequently the story revolves around Roy, Archie and Norman smarming up to him, in the hope he will leave something in his will for them.

Tales from the Thousand and One Nights TV Movie
The Swindler

Tales from the One Hundred and One Nights was a studio based BBC one-off fantasy drama that show-cased a selection of the famous West and South Asian stories and folk tales compiled in Arabic during the Islamic Golden Age. It was adapted by Victor Pemberton, directed by Michael Hayes and starred Ava Cadell, Frank Finlay, Paul Hardwick, Straford Johns, Neville Jason and Patrick. Dad took on a number of roles including a Magician, The Swindler, The Govenor and a Simpleton. The stories he appeared in included The Tale of the Simpleton and the Ass, Tales of the Ebony Horse and Tale of the Woman and the Five Suitors.

Xavier

Bognor is a Thames TV comedy drama series based on the of novels by Tim Heald featuring Simon Bognor, an investigator working for of the Board of Trade, starring David Horovitch on the title role. Patrick played a monk called Xavier from Beaubridge Friary. He comes under suspicion for the murder of Brother Luke and for sending more than honey overseas to Communist countries during the fairs. Pat appeared in all six episodes of the story Unbecoming Habits which was directed by Robert Tronson, adapted by T.R. Bowman and co-starred Stephen Baxter (Edmund) and Geoffrey Chater (Sir Erris Beg).

Nanny is a BBC TV historical  drama series that ran between 1981 and 1983. Wendy Craig stars as nanny Barbara Gray, caring for children in 1930s England. She was also responsible for the initial idea and co-wrote some of the scripts. Patrick appeared in five episodes as Mr Jessop - A Twist of Fate (1982) directed by Christopher Barry, Ashes to Ashes (1982) directed by Michael Custance, Ring Time (1982) directed by Michael Custance, Other People’s Babies (1981) directed by Michael Custance and A Pinch of Dragon’s Blood (1981) directed by Michael Custance. Donald Burton (Archie Harris) and Ann Dyson (Granny Rudd) co-starred.

Shine on Harvey Moon is a Central Television drama series produced for for ITV created by comedy writers Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran. The series is set in the East End of London just after the Second World War. Kenneth Cranham (Harvey Moon), returns home from the war and finds his family involved in various troubles. Patrick appeared in one episode called The Course of True Love as Nan’s old flame (Elizabeth Spriggs) Wilf, who has made his fortune in Africa. Marks and Gran went on to write a string of successful comedies such as The New Statesman and Birds of a Feather.

The Cleopatras (TV Series)

The Cleopatras was a eight part historical BBC TV drama series written by Philip Mackie and set in ancient Egypt during the latter part of the Ptolemaic Dynasty. As a follow up to I Claudius, this series was generally poorly received despite the impressive cast. Patrick appeared in one episode entitled 100 BC as a messanger called Sextus. Cleopatra Berenike (Pauline Morgan) plots to be rid of Alexander (David Purcell) who has turned to drink. Chickpea reclaims the throne and Cleopatra Berenike’s ambition is realised when he makes her joint monarch. It was directed by John Frankau.

The Five Doctors
Doctor Who

The Five Doctors is a special feature-length episode of the TVseries Doctor Who, produced in celebration of the programme’s 20th anniversary. Pat and Jon Pertwee reprised their roles of the Doctor, whilst Richard Hurndall portrayed the first Doctor, and unused footage of Tom Baker was used to portray the fourth Doctor, as he declined to appear. Peter Davison played the fifth doctor at this time. The episode was originally entitled The Six Doctors and would have included a Doctor android impostors. The episode was directed by Peter Moffatt and written by Terrance Dicks. It was first broadcast in the USA on the anniversary and inthe UK two days later.

Amy is a TV drama produced by Compact TV for the BBC. It covers the story of Amy Johnson, a pioneering English aviator whoflew solo on numerous long-distance record attempts during the 1930s. She died after disappearing while piloting a RAF Wellington bomber on January 5 1941. Patrick played the millionare newspaper owner Lord Rothermere who often sponsered Amy’s trips and covered them exstensively in his papers including the Daily Mirror. The single play was directed by Nat Crosby, written by Roger Milner and starred Harriett Walters as Amy Johnson.

Foxy Lady was a Granada Television comedy series set in the 1960s and revolved around a young female reporter, Daisy Jackson (Diane Keen), who worked for a newspaper and encountered sexism from her colleagues. Patrick played Schofield in two episodes.

Minder (TV Series)
Joe Mancini

Minder is a Euston Films (Thames Television) comedy-drama about the London criminal underworld. and starred Dennis Waterman as Terry McCann, an honest and likable minder and George Cole as Arthur Daley, a socially ambitious, but highly unscrupulous importer-exporter and used-car salesman. Patrick played an Anglo-Italian father called Mancini who requires  marriage guidance from a very unlikely person - Terry. This episode was called Windows and was directed by Robert Young, written by Geoffrey Case and co-starred Stephen Rea with Patrick. The series ran from 1979 to 1994 and lasted ten seasons.

Swallows and Amazons, The Big Six is a BBC children’s drama based on the ninth book of Arthur Ransome’s Swallows and Amazons series of children’s stories, published in 1940. Patrick took on the role of Harry Bangate, a claypipe smoking eelman from Norfolk who lives and works alone and has been taught his craft by his uncle. The four episodes were adapted by Michael Robson, directed by Andrew Morgan and included in the cast Andrew Burt playing Mr. Farland, John woodvine as P.C. Tedder and a young Colin Baker as Doctor Dudgen later to be cast as the sixth Doctor Who.

The Box of Delights is a BBC children’s drama series adapted by Alan Seymour from the fantasy novel by John Masefield. Patrick played a magician called Cole and appeared in three out of the six episodes - When the Wolves were Running, Where shall the Knighted Snowman Go? and Leaveus not Little, Nor Yet Dark. He co-starred alongside, Robert Stephens, Patricia Quinn, John Horsley and James Grout and newcomer Devin Stanfield as Kay. A mixture of live action and primative computer animation were used to portray the adventure. The series, which was directed by Renny Rye, is now considered a nostalgic christmas classic.

The Two Ronnies is a BBC comedy sketch show based on the personalities of Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett, who never became an exclusive pairing, but continued to work independently in television outside of the editions of the Two Ronnies. Patrick appeared in the Christmas Special (1984) as crazy judge in charge of a ‘Quizshow Court’and a yokal villager in a sketch called ‘The Ballad of Snivelling and Grudge.’  The show was directed by Marcus Plantin and had a variety of notable writers including Ray Alan, John Cleese, Barry Cryer, Spike Milligan, David Nobbs, David Renwick, Eric Idle, John Sullivan and Michael Palin.

The Two Doctors is a triple episode story from the BBC science fiction TV series Doctor Who. It starred Colin Baker and Nicola Bryant as the Sixth Doctor and his companion Peri. Patrick returned for the last time as the second Doctor with his companion Jamie (Frazer Hines). The Doctor has teamed up with himself before to save lives but this time, he must save his past self in order to ensure his own existence in his present. Written by Robert Holmes and directed by Peter Moffatt it featured John Stratton (Shockeye), Jacqueline Pearce (Chessene) and Laurence Payne (Dastari). Location filming took place in Spain.

Long Term Memory was a single play in the BBC Summer Season series and was directed by Paul Seed. Broadcast on BBC2 the series was made up of twenty-five plays with many well known stars including Rodney Bewes, Anna Massey, Freddie Jones, Roy Kinnear and Dinsdale Landen. Pat’s play written by M.J. Read was about a man who wanted a reunion with the family from which he has been separated for twenty-one years. Patrick played the enstranged man called Gerald alongside Pat Heywood.

The Two of Us is an London Weekend Television sit-com series starring Nicholas Lyndhurst and Janet Dibley as Ashley and Elaine, an unmarried couple living together.
Patrick appeared in the first season as Perce, Ashley’s rather strange and fitness-obsesed grandfather. The couple were also regularly visited his domineering mother (Jennifer Piercey) and suppressed father (Paul McDowell).The comedy was created by Alex Shearer, directed by Marcus Plantin and John Gorman and was recorded in front of a studio audience. Dad was replaced by Tenniel Evans after his death in March 1987.

Inspector Morse (TV Series)
George Jackson

Inspector Morse is a Central TV detective drama television series based on a series of novels by Colin Dexter. It starred John Thaw as Chief Inspector Morse and Kevin Whately as Sergeant Lewis. Patrick appeared as George Jackson a nosy handyman who is murdered, in The Dead of Jericho which was the very first instalment of the series. This episode was directed by Alastair Reid and also co-starred Gemma Jones (Ann Staveley), James Grout (Chief Superintendent) and Charlotte Mitchell (Mrs Staveley). Colin Dexter also appears briefly in a non speaking role.

Yesterday’s Dreams is a drama series made by Central TV, directed by Ian Sharp and created by Peter Gibbs.  The story centres around Diane (Judy Loe) and Martin Daniels (Paul Freeman) seven years on from their divorce. Old passions are rekindled... leading to painful decisions for everyone involved. Patrick appeared in four episodes out of six playing the role of Jack.
Dad had recorded these episodes the year before but they were broadcast after his death during the autumn of 1987.

Great Sporran of the Isles

Super Gran is a Tyne Tees Television children’s programme, about a grandmother with super powers adapted by Jenny McDade from books written by Forrest Wilson. The main character, Super Gran, was played by Gudrun Ure, with Iain Cuthbertson as her arch nemesis, The Scunner Campbell. Patrick took on the role of the crazed Great Sporran of the Isles who lived in a haunted castle.
The Scunner Campbell comes into money when he claims to be the rightful heir to Great Sporran of the Isles. But to prove his worth, he has to spend the night in the haunted wing of the castle - on Halloween.

Knights of God (TV Series)

Knights of God was a TVS science fiction children’s television serial, produced for ITV. Set in the year 2020, it showed a Britain ruled by the Knights of God, a fascist and anti-Christian religious order that came to power during a brutal civil war twenty years previously. It starred George Winter as Gervase Owen Edwards, the Welsh son of a resistance leader (Gareth Thomas), and John Woodvine as the Prior Mordrin, leader of the titular cult. Patrick played Arthur, the apparent leader of the English resistance, and Julian Fellowes played an ambitious and ruthless Mordrin.
